About
David Elliott
For the past 25 years I worked at Hong Kong International School(HKIS) as a Technology Coordinator. I taught technology to all ages including teachers but spent the last 17 years working at the High School level. My education included Math and Computer Science at Purdue graduating in 1966 and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction specializing in educational technology from the University of Oregon. Watching the development of the International Society for Education and Technology (ISTE) grow from that fine program at the University of Oregon has been a special treat.
Key to understanding my development as a technology instructor has been engaging students in creating technology systems of service to the community. A brief list would be:
- In the early 90’s creating a BBS (Bulletin Board System) that connected students across Hong Kong
- Working with the HKIS Strategic Planning committee and students to build the DragonNet On-Line Community Web System in 1998
- Advising the DragonNet Sysops (1998-2007) that continually added interactive web systems of service including Parent Conference Signup systems, Student Activity Systems, Conference Management Systems, Yearbook Systems and many others of service to the school
- Around 3 years ago, we began working with an alumni sysop to build a comprehensive Class Management System, Curriculum Management System and Portfolio System called MyDragonNet. This system is now a mission critical part of the HKIS community and has been successfully transferred to our sister school Concordia International School Shanghai.
Over the years, I have presented at many conferences and workshops. Helping teachers, administrators and students truly get excited about possibilities using technology motivates me and is very life-giving. Please write if you have any questions or ideas to delliotthk@gmail.com
